USM and Henry Julier Debut “Woven Structures”
A home objects collection combining Danish paper cord and the USM Haller Modular System.
On the occasion of NYCxDesign, USM Modular Furniture debuts Woven Structures, a new product collaboration with New York-based industrial designer Henry Julier. The 10-piece collection introduces a new materiality to the USM Haller Modular System, incorporating Danish paper cord for the first time and bringing warmth and tactility to its iconic design.
With over a decade as the former Industrial Design Director at Standard Issue, a multidisciplinary studio in Brooklyn, Julier’s practice spans product, furniture, lighting, and exhibit design for global clients. A meticulous systems thinker with deep knowledge of design history, Julier sees design as a versatile problem-solving tool. In Woven Structures, that philosophy comes to life in a careful balance of form and material.
The proven legacy of the USM Haller System, combined with the durability and repairability of paper cord, results in a family of home objects that offer both visual richness and functional longevity. The collection explores the balance between industrial precision and handcrafted detail, expressing a new warmth within modular logic of USM. Woven Structures comprises the WS Chair, WS Bench, WS Stool, WS Side table, WS Split-Level Table, WS Nesting Tables and the WS Low and High Trays. The WS Chair and Stool are also available in children’s sizes. Furthermore, select pieces – the WS Side Table, WS Stool, and WS Bench – can be customised with additional USM panels, introducing the brand’s timeless colour palette and expanding each object’s functionality. Woven Structures will debut at the inaugural edition of SHELTER during New York Design Week and will be available globally through USM showrooms and authorised international dealers.
